PROGRAMMING
The library offers various programming for children. More information on the following programming is available through our online calendar or by calling the library.
STORY TIME - Our Story Time is planned with 2 year olds and young 3 year olds in mind. These children can share with their attending adult a variety of crafts, stories, songs, and other fun activities. There are two half hour classes each week during the fall and winter sessions. Remember that these children must be accompanied by an adult, and in order to make this time a special time for the children, no siblings may attend.
STORY HOUR - Those children ages 3 through 5 (who are not in kindergarten) are invited to sign up for our Story Hour classes. The library's Story Hour classes are taught by our Children's Librarian, who holds a degree in Elementary Education and had 20 years of experience teaching pre-school before joining the staff of the library.
Classes teach creative expression, social skills, listening comprehension, and the foundations of reading through number and letter recognition and vocabulary building. This is accomplished through the use of stories, crafts, plays and songs, and offering children a chance to make new friends. Six one hour long classes are offered each week during the fall and winter sessions. Class size is limited, so be sure to pre-register.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS - Throughout the year, special activities are planned after school for children in elementary school. Programs have included foreign language classes, arts & crafts, and a series of theme related classes such as favorite authors or countries.
SUMMER READING PROGRAM - During the summer months, the library conducts a Summer Reading Program which usually begins in June and runs for 5 weeks. There are classes for Preschool - Grade 5. Crafts, stories, and other activities will all be part of the weekly classes.
