The children's department collection includes:
- picture books
- easy reading material for beginning readers
- beginning chapter books

- non-fiction for preschool through grade 8
- audio books for both lower and upper elementary grades
ACCELERATED READERS
In the past, we have identified our Acelerated Reader titles by placing yellow tape on the spine of the books. However, keeping current with this became an overwhelming task. So while there are still books with yellow tape on the spine, we have discontinued marking new titles that we receive.
Our online catalog provides a form for searching Accelerated Readers in our collection by both point value and reading level. From the search page in our catalog, simply choose "Reading Programs" to search. You may also search the entire collection of titles in the Accelerated Reader program at ARBookfinder.
COMPUTERS
There are six computers located in the children's department. These computers contain a variety of educational software but do not provide access to the Internet. Three computers have software designed for grades 2-6 and three computers have software designed for preschoolers and toddlers.
Internet access is available at the computers in the reference section of the library. Children must be 11 years of age or older in order to access the Internet without being accompanied by a parent. A library card is required to sign in to use the Internet.
